I am here
Well, i am finally sort of techno updated. we'll see how this works as I am living in the most primitive conditions that I've ever lived in. No clean running water, occasional electricity (so the technology can be charged) and lots of biting insects.Today I ate rice with a friend. I did pretty well, thanks to practice in Djibouti of eating with my hand. It was tasty too: spicy, tamarind flavored with some bony fish on top. I think we're having the same thing for supper. With the rains every day, there should be a nice fruit and vegetable crop springing forth sometime soon.
so what's happening so far? The team have been gracious in letting me adjust gradually by providing food for me and not giving me too many decisions at the beginning. So I wander around and observe life and meet people. Lots of people whose names i promptly forget...
I have met my language teacher, Daniel, and will start language learning this monday. I know one basic thing so far: something like "eebeeyay/eebeejay" but I haven't mastered recognizing the question. Apparently the question is "how are your people?" and the answer is "they are here". Unfortunately, people sometimes start with a different question like "what is your name?" and my answer "they are here" is met with confounded looks.
And so "I am here" and learning....
